California Public Records Act Requests

California Public Records Act Requests

The Office of the County Counsel manages the collection and production of records for requests made pursuant to the California Public Records Act (PRA). The California Public Records Act gives access to public records maintained by governmental entities unless exempt from disclosure by law. In 2021, the County responded to a total of 682 Public Record Act Requests and closed 83% within 14 days. As we track this data, we learn to be more efficient while continuing to give high-quality legal services.

Our Goal

In 2021, the Office of the County Counsel closed 83% of PRAs within 14 days of submission. Our goal for 2022 is to increase that close rate by 2%.
We are tracking our quarterly close rate (right) to make sure we meet this goal.
